After the death of his father, a yakuza boss, 14-year-old Kikuo is taken in by Hanjiro, a celebrated kabuki actor, who raises him alongside his own son, Shunsuke. Kikuo resolves to devote his life to mastering the art of kabuki. Growing up together, Kikuo and Shunsuke share adventures and experiences that take them from rigorous training to the stage, from moments of triumph to scandals that threaten to destroy them. Friend, rivalry, betrayal and ambition — their lives are intertwined but only one of them will ultimately rise to become the greatest kabuki actor.
