The Flower Princess (Part 1)

R:Not Yet Rated

Cantonese (TH/EN/CN Subs) The Flower Princess is a poignant animated adaptation of the tale of Princess Changping from the Ming Dynasty. Betrothed to ZHOU Shixian by imperial decree, they are separated when the Ming falls and her father, the Chongzhen Emperor, is overthrown. Surviving her family’s tragic end, the Princess lives in seclusion. Years later, she reunites with ZHOU, who plans to petition the QING Emperor for her father’s burial and her brother’s release, but only if she submits to QING rule. After her submission, they marry and, on their wedding night at their love’s original site, choose to drink poison together as an act of loyalty to their fallen dynasty. This story, based on a famous legend, was immortalized by playwright TANG Ti Sheng in the celebrated Cantonese opera The Flower Princess, first staged in Hong Kong in 1957
